Power Abuse

Paradise 2. Reaper in Blue 3. Edge of Existence 4. Skinning Teeth 5. Snake Skin

A new EP from Tokyo crossover thrash / New York-style hardcore band MurakuMo. The band had been together for four years at the time of release, but until then their output had been limited to DIY formats such as digital releases and CD-Rs, making this their long-awaited first properly pressed record. With an average age of around 25 and a schedule of four to five shows a month centered on Tokyo, they have the musicianship of a true live band and stand among the scene’s most promising younger hardcore acts. Their sound can be described as “modern old school”: regular-tuned, tightly picked guitar riffs recalling Anthrax and Bay Area thrash combined with stomping drums rooted in NYHC. Elements reminiscent of Leeway and Crown of Thornz appear throughout, while the mosh parts and carefully measured breaks and beatdowns show exactly how well the band balances light-footed energy with heaviness. The strained, almost blood-vessel-bursting vocal style adds a perfect dose of tension. Release shows were scheduled around the country, and anyone who connects with the record should see the band live — their playing will hit even harder in person. 5 tracks. Standard jewel case.
