A new three-way split from three bands operating at the front line of Japan’s heavy hardcore scene.
Dooms of Ghetto, Horsehead Nebula and Vice City Slave — all active near the leading edge of domestic heavy hardcore — come together for an extremely heavy three-way split EP. Each band had been together for roughly a decade, and for all three this was their first release in some time, making it a record many hardcore listeners had been waiting for.
First, Dooms of Ghetto: a slamming hardcore band from Niigata, a region sometimes nicknamed a “kingdom of brutality” because of its history with brutal death and slamming bands. They had released demos every few years, but this was their first properly pressed release. Their slamming-informed sound has enough lethal force to recommend to fans ranging from No Zodiac to Devourment, and the band planned to become more active outside their home prefecture around the release.
Next, Horsehead Nebula. Roughly four years after the full-length released through this label, they return with an even darker approach, emphasizing ominous riffs and arrangements. The sound has moved somewhat further toward metal, but the razor-sharp mosh parts still reveal the band’s hardcore roots.
Finally, Vice City Slave. This was their first recording since the demo CD-R from the band’s early days in Sendai — nearly ten years earlier. They had hardly been inactive in the meantime, however, maintaining a high rate of live activity, and the quality of these songs reflects that experience. Drop after drop combines perfectly with tough-guy vocals; you can practically see the pit just by listening.
8 tracks. 4-panel paper sleeve.
